Honk is a band led by saxophonist Masa Orpana, one of the most charismatic jazz musicians in the Tampere region. The group’s secret weapon is its saxophone section, driven by a rhythm section pulsing with the spirit of New Orleans.

The band’s warm and gritty sound draws inspiration from the rhythmic energy of New Orleans R&B and other blues traditions. Their distinctive repertoire consists mainly of original compositions, while carefully selected R&B classics are performed in Orpana’s tightly crafted arrangements. Vocal duties are handled by guitarist–singer Johnny Gideon.
Honk has thrilled audiences at numerous club and festival concerts, and critics have been equally enthusiastic. For example, Blues News described their album The Chase! as unquestionably one of the finest recordings of 2023.
